The drone is incredibly useful and the cooldown is pretty quick, which is great. I also like how much you can customize weapons, and how easy it is to use cool military gadgets like your drone. And the graphics look great, even if they're not as super gorgeous as early promotional material made them seem. Enemy and squad AI is fine, if nothing special. Driving is a bit wonky at times, and that's especially true of the ubiquitous helicopters, but for the most part it works fine.
It's an elegant solution to the issue, and I hope a bunch of other games copy it.įor the most part, the game runs really well on PS4 (the only system I've tried it on so far). In Wildlands, you don't have that problem, but you also avoid the wonky shooting so many third-person shooters suffer from. It frustrates me to no end that I almost never see my Guardian, even though I've spent all this time customizing her. Going back to Destiny, I wish that game had the same design. It makes shooting a lot more fluid and fun, at least in my opinion.
As soon as you zoom in with a gun, you're in first -person mode. Normally that's a conundrum, but here the game solves that problem artfully. I'm just not a huge fan of third-person shooting, but I love being able to play my character in third-person view. I love how it's a third-person game that uses first-person shooting mechanics. I prefer this take on a co-op heavy game, because I don't always have friends to play with and I don't necessarily want to play with strangers either.
Compare that to something like Destiny which really does punish solo players, making it literally impossible for lone wolves to do their thing. Basically you can play it how you want, and that's great. On the other hand, it's really easy to play with friends or randoms also. You have your squad with you at all times (no matter how hard you try to ditch them!) and can play the game start to finish without ever joining up with another living, breathing human being. I love the fact that Wildlands doesn't punish you for playing solo.
